In England, all children attending state schools from Reception (ages 4–5) to Year 2 (ages 6–7) are entitled to Universal Free School Meals, regardless of household income.

Beyond this, children may be eligible for free school meals if their parents or guardians receive certain means‑tested benefits, including Universal Credit, Income Support, or Jobseeker’s Allowance. Eligibility may also apply to children who receive benefits in their own right, or where household income falls within specific thresholds. *

If you believe your family may be eligible, please ask the office for a form to complete. We will then submit an application to the local authority on your behalf.

* From the start of the 2026/27 school year, the Department for Education will introduce new eligibility criteria. Under these changes, all children from households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to free school meals. Further guidance will be issued ahead of September 2026.

For children in Chestnut, Sycamore, Beech, and Oak Classes who are not eligible under the above criteria, school meals cost £3.00 per day. Payments must be made in advance via School Spider.
